Youtube user jaspersquid has uploaded a collection of almost 50 clips in which quicksand makes an appearance swallowing up one of the main characters. Videos range from Mexican soap operas (which we have included here) to the Dukes of Hazard, to Japanese Anime.

El usuario de Youtube jaspersquid ha subido una colección de casi 50 vídeos en los que las arenas movedizas hacen una aparición, tragándose a alguno de los personajes principales. Entre los vídeos se pueden encontrar desde telenovelas mexicanas (la cual hemos incluido aqui), hasta los Duques de Hazard y Anime japonesa.
A project where four different artists randomly interchanged a sketchbook among them for nine months. When one of them received it, an entry was made and was sent off to the next artist. Two of the artists reside in New York City and the other two in Belfast, Ireland. The book remained the only means of communication between them during the duration of the project. Nevertheless, when the project ended the artists met and discussed what each entry meant and how it was interpreted by the rest. The artists commentary during such discussion is included with the image of each entry.

Un proyecto donde cuatro artistas diferentes intercambiaron un mismo cuaderno por nueve meses. Cuando uno de ellos lo recibía agregaba una entrada y luego lo mandaba al siguiente artista. Dos de los artistas residen en la ciudad de Nueva York mientras que los otros dos en Belfast, Irlanda. El libro fue el única medio de comunicación entre los artistas durante la duración del proyecto. Sin embargo, cuando el proyecto terminó los artistas se reunieron y discutieron lo que cada entrada significaba y como fue interpretada por los demás. Los comentarios de tal discusión se encuentran incluidos con la imagen de cada entrada.
Filmakers Beka and Louise Lemoine have recently released a film titled Koolhaas Houselife which documents the daily existence of Guadalupe Acedo, a house wife in Rem Koolhaas’s house in Bordeaux (engineered by ARUP/Cecil Balmond). A trailer is available in the website and a DVD will be released soon. It seems promising.

Tegucigalpa’s Toncontín International Airport has a reputation among pilots for being one of the most dangerous places to land. At 1,863 meters, its single runway is one of the shortest international runways in the world. The biggest plane that can land there is the Boeing 757, and getting there requires flying dangerously close to the mountains. Here we present two videos, one taken from the cockpit of an airliner about to land, and the other from the mountain.

Studio 360 is a Public Radio show which interviews artists, writers and musicians, updating with an hour-long podcast every week usually with a theme, other times more eclectic. I found this interview in which Richard Serra discusses his retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York to be very enlightening about the show and his work in general.

Jaime Lerner revolutionized urban transportation networks with his design of the Curitiba transportation system. It is a hybrid of a bus and a metro. With an entry tube, people pay before stepping into the bus, increasing the efficiency the system by reducing the time used at the bus stops. Today, around 80 cities in the world use this system. In is talk he mentions this history, and how sustanability can be brouhgt to cities around the world with surprising optimism.

Jaime Lerner revolucionó el transporte urbano con su diseño del sistema de autobuses de Curitba, Brasil. El sistema consiste de un híbrido del metro y el autobús, usando una plataforma para abordar el autobús, el usuario paga antes de entrar al bus, aumentando la eficiencia del sistema al bajar el tiempo de paradas considerablemente. Ahora en dia, 80 ciudades del mundo usan este sistema. En su platica menciona esta historia y da una visión optimista de como la sostenibilidad puede ser parte de cualquier ciudad hoy en día.
